The state of safety before restoration:

Upon admission to restoration, the picture had significant mechanical damage in the form of strict, mainly vertical, fractures of the paper base (most likely that occurred from the folding of the picture into a roll). Part of the breaks on the front side had dilapidated edges with losses of a colorful layer. The edges of the picture also strongly dilapidated, had numerous small breaks and loss of paper. The right angles of the foundations were lost. From the center of the upper edge down – a figured gap of the base of 20 cm; In the left lower quarter – a figured breakthrough of the base with a total length of 30 cm. There were significant general warning of a very oxidized paper base.

Complex of the events:

During the restoration process, the paper base of the exhibit is stabilized by the introduction of a buffer solution until the pH value to the neutral value is reduced; plasticized; Strengthened by impregnation with a aqueous solution of cellulose air air Klucel G. Each break is strengthened from the back of Japanese paper and wheat glue. The loss of the base in the corners and along the edges, as well as the unevenly cut upper edge on the right, is full – to the right angle. The front side was cleaned from surface pollution

In order to give the exhibit more stability, duplication of Japanese paper Kozo Natural was performed, and then on a cardboard that does not contain wood mass. The picture duplicated on the cardboard is fixed on a dull subframe

Toning the loss of a colorful layer by fractures and scuffs is made by gouache of the company “Talens” and colored pencils “Derwent” .
